At all times, we look for commercial, practical solutions to disputes and seek to avoid litigation wherever possible.

An often effective method of minimising building and construction disputes is by way of Alternative Dispute Resolution strategies such as Mediation or Arbitration. Hansons Lawyers are highly experienced and qualified Arbitrators and Mediators and will encourage the use of these options as a first port of call.

However, if litigation is unavoidable, we manage cases expeditiously, economically and effectively.

We have extensive experience in building and construction matters and have conducted cases for claimants and defendants in most courts and tribunals used in our Judicial system. We strive to minimise the disruption that litigation can cause.

Our Litigation Team handles both home building claims which are usually heard in the Consumer, Trader and Tenancy Tribunal (CTTT) as well as commercial and industrial construction claims which are usually heard in the civil court jurisdictions.

For larger matters, a team strategy is often used where more than one lawyer will work on a particular file. This approach offers our clients access to a diverse pool of talent and experience, and ensures the most practical solutions to your problem. Team members are continuously updating their knowledge by attending seminars and industry workshops.

One advantage of engaging Hansons Lawyers in any building or construction matter is the fact that we are able to provide in-house expertise at both a legal and technical level - no other firm in Wollongong is able to provide this level of service.

Tom Sherley heads our building and construction division and has specialised in litigation over many years. Tom can give you practical advice as to where you stand and what has to be done to protect your interests. We are happy to talk to you without obligation to ensure that you are aware of your rights and obligations under the building contract.
